Venus on top in those first games (3-0).

But unlike Konjuh, it seems that Jelena at least can return decently. So if she limits UE's in the rallies, we may get a match after Set 1 (Venus will take that one for sure).

This could play right into Osta's hands. She loves the come from behind going for broke scenario.

Jelena's father is in the house, sitting next to his wife. First time seeing him at one of her matches. Facially, there is a clear resemblance.

Venus cruising in her service games so far. But seems a bit too casual out there imho. Ostapenko is a bit overwhelmed by the occasion it seems and hasn't found her rhythm yet. Venus up 5-2 first set

5-2... but no more BP since 3-0... pretty even in those last 4 games.

Venus could do more with the second serve from Aljona. And Jelena's returns are not that far out; if those two had clipped the line, it would have been a rebreak-opportunity

Not watching the stream.. so no much comment.
Scoreboard shows a pretty straight forward match so far for Venus.

I see a burgeoning assault coming from Osta. The 2nd set will be very different, I predict.

As long as Venus is serving well, Ostapenko has no chance. That's what I said yesterday.
Ostapenko's return position leaves the "T" wide open for Venus to blast aces and service winners.
If Venus starts missing first serves and DFting... then Ostapenko will take over.
